News Workers Demand on Article 23
The SAR government released proposals on implementing Article 23 in September, this posts adverse effects on freedoms of the press and expression. Though Secretary for Security Mrs Regina Ip has verbally promised to add freedom protection terms to the laws, she fails to provide details. It remains uncertain whether these promises can be materialized.
The Hong Kong Journalists Association and the Hong Kong Press Photographers Association will launch a signature campaign with a view to collectively express our concern. Signatures collected will be sent to the Security Bureau.
We hope fellow workers could sign this statement to pursue freedoms of the press and expression. Our co-ordinators should return the signatures to HKJA Office before 20th November (fax: 2571 7329). Aside from co-ordinators, campaign materials will also be distributed via posts and emails. If you come across signing requests more than once, please sign only once to avoid confusion.
